This Sunday's Waterford Senior hurling final see's old rivalry resumed as county champions Ballygunner take on arch rivals Mount Sion in Walsh Park at 3.30pm. The two team's have contested ten finals between them down through the years, the first being in 1965, which Mount Sion won. The last contested between the two was in 2000, when Ballygunner were totally outplayed by their opponents and suffered a fourteen points defeat - 1-20 to 0-09, but the gunners put that defeat behind them and made amends in last year's when they beat Lismore. Revenge for that defeat two years ago, has to be the motivation Ballygunner need to defend their title but Mount Sion are an experienced enough side and can not be taken for granted. For neutral fans this could possibly the match to see this year as a total of eleven inter-county players will be on show, with the county champions backboned by Stephen Frampton, Fergal Hartley, andy Maloney and Paul Flynn, while Sion will look to the McGrath brothers Ken and Eoin, Brian Greene, Eoin Kelly and Brian Flannery for inspiration. Mount Sion have made a surprise choice in their selection as experienced goalkeeper Philly Ryan makes way for former minor county keeper Ian O'Regan, while county star Tony Browne reverts to centre back from midfield. Although the Ballygunner team has not been selected yet, it more or less picks itself and this could give the county champions the edge on Sunday. Tweet
