"We're not in a position to shadow box"

Derek McGrath insists Waterford won't be holding anything back when they face Cork in the Allianz Hurling League final on May 3.

The neighbouring counties will meet again five weeks later in the first round of the Munster SHC, but McGrath was quick to dismiss the notion of the league decider being a phoney war after his side's dramatic win over favourites Tipperary.

"Whatever shadow boxing any other team are doing, I don't think we're in a position to be able to shadow box with anyone in terms of our development," the delighted Waterford manager said.

"I think they have to be taken as two separate entities. Obviously, you guys (the media) will allude to the fact, when it comes to the 8th of June, that this tem may learn more than the other team in the interim period but to me they'll be separate games."

The De La Salle clubman was delighted that his young charges were able to go "toe to toe" with the Premier.

"The most satisfying thing for us is to be able to go toe to toe with a team like Tipperary," he continued.

"Even on the line, when it was a draw, I was saying Jesus this is great because it's a great indication of where you are.

"We're trying to live in that moment where it's just great to be here and at that stage the result didn't really bother us."
