Shane Ryan hit the net in either half as Irish Press Cup holders Waterford saw off Dublin's challenge in today's All-Ireland MHC quarter-final at Semple Stadium.

The captain from De La Salle struck in the 11th and 41st minutes as the Deise put the disappointment of last Tuesday's Munster final replay defeat to Limerick behind them to set up a semi-final joust with Leinster champions Kilkenny at Croke Park on August 10.

Dual star Con O'Callaghan gave Dublin an early lead, but it was the only time in the game that the All-Ireland champions were headed as they hit back with points from Patrick Curran (two) and Cormac Curran before Ryan's first major made it 1-4 to 0-2.

Waterford extended their lead to 1-6 to 0-3 through scores from Shane Bennett and Patrick Curran before Dublin rallied with efforts from Rian McBride and Chris Bennett.

But the winners still led by three points, 1-8 to 0-8, at the interval.

Sean Ryan had the Dubs level within five minutes of the restart, but Waterford had regained a 1-12 to 0-13 lead before Ryan's second goal put daylight between the sides again.

When Darragh Lyons followed up with a point, Waterford's lead was six points, 2-13 to 0-13, and while Dublin halved the deficit to 0-18 to 2-15 with eight minutes remaining, the Munster men were able to close out the win with late scores from Cormac Curran and Shane Bennett.
