Shane O'Sullivan has failed in his bid to have a red card rescinded and will have to sit out Waterford's Munster SHC quarter-final against Cork on May 25th.

The Irish Daily Star reports that the Ballygunner clubman's appeal against his sending-off versus Dublin in the Division 1A relegation play-off at Walsh Park failed on Monday night.

Referee Johnny Ryan reported O'Sullivan for a Category III offence, "to strike or attempt to strike an opponent with a hurley, with minimal force", which carries a one-match ban.

The 28 year old and the Deise have the option of taking his case to the Disputes Resolution Authority.

It's a further blow for Derek McGrath and his team who are already without long-term injury victims Stephen Daniels and Brian O'Halloran for the Rebel County clash.
