Ronan Sweeney has joined the Waterford senior football management team.

The former Kildare attacker / midfielder, who announced his intercounty retirement following the Lilywhites' Qualifier defeat to Tyrone last month, will act as assistant manager and coach on Suirside.

The 32-year-old Moorefield clubman - current secretary of the GPA - replaces fellow Kildare man Tony Kelly in the Waterford set-up.

In his new brief, Sweeney will be renewing acquaintances with Niall Carew, current Waterford boss and previously a selector / forwards coach with Kildare. Tweet
