Stand only open during work at Walsh Park

August 21, 2013
Work has started on the safety upgrade at Walsh Park and the county board have confirmed that only the stand will be open in the coming weeks as a result.

"Please note that excavations and some construction works have commenced in Walsh Park as part of a Safety Upgrade to the spectator banks. These works were identified in a Health & Safety Audit completed by the National Infrastructure Committee and are required to be completed for Walsh Park to pass any future health and safety inspections," said a county board statement.

"We are pleased to say that work commenced on Monday last, but unfortunately it will be necessary to close off ALL SPECTATOR BANKS to the public for the upcoming rounds of Senior and Eastern Championships, and all other games. Spectator access and egress is unchanged to the Stand and this shall be the ONLY spectator viewing area during the works, which is estimated to take 3 - 4 weeks.

"We would request ALL Clubs to inform supporters that there is no access to the spectator banks until all works are completed. We would particularly appeal to parents to instruct children that going behind the goals to get sliotars is not allowed, the spectator banks are deemed a construction site during this time and are totally off limits to unauthorised persons.

"Should the Clubs playing in the coming weeks wish to appoint a designated person to stand behind both goals to collect and return sliotars we will allow free admission to two people from each Club once they are identified to us prior to the games. These people must be over 18 years of age and will be obliged to wear stewards hi vis tops for the duration of their Clubs games."
