Munster MHC: Tipp rout Waterford to reach decider

June 28, 2012
Tipperary 2-25
Waterford 0-12

Tipperary will face either Clare or Limerick in the Munster MHC final on July 15 after recording their first win over Waterford since 2003 in emphatic fashion at Semple Stadium last night.

Before an attendance of 3,126, the game witnessed an explosive Tipp start which saw them streak into a 1-4 to 0-1 lead inside the first 10 minutes. Late call-up Sean Ryan accounted for the opening goal after being set up by team captain Bill Maher, who dominated midfield all night along with the outstanding Tadhg Gallagher.

But Waterford gradually clawed their way back into the game as three unanswered points from Stephen Bennett (two) and Austin Gleeson left them just four adrift, 0-7 to 1-8, at the break.

However, Tipp resumed with a goal from Gallagher inside two minutes of the restart and by the 36th minute, they had extended their lead to 2-12 to 0-7 and were virtually out of sight. By the 47th minute, they were 2-18 to 0-9 in front and already looking forward to their first Munster final in three years.
