Waterford's Dan Shanahan celebrates
Former Hurler of the Year Dan Shanahan was part of a soccer success recently.
The retired Waterford star came off the bench to help his local club Lismore to a penalty shootout victory over Blackwater in the Ned Barry Cup final. Shanahan will be back in hurling action this Sunday when Lismore face Dungarvan in the opening round of the Waterford SHC at Fraher Field.
He wasn't the only Lismore hurler to win Ned Barry Cup medals last weekend - former county 'keeper Brendan Landers, Paul Quinn and David Howard also figured in the success.
Meanwhile, Waterford football is coming to terms with the news that Gary Hurney will miss the county's Munster SFC opener against Limerick on May 20 after he suffered a fractured jaw in the closing stages of Ballinacourty's Waterford SFC victory over St. Saviour's last Saturday.
The Deise captain, who starred for Munster in the Inter-provincial championship earlier this year, is facing a long spell on the sidelines as a result of the injury, which he sustained following an accidental collision.
