David Tubridy and Rory Donnelly scored 1-9 between them as Clare opened their Allianz League campaign with a comfortable victory over 12-man Waterford in Cusack Park, Ennis.

The home side set out their stall by racing into an early 0-4 to 0-0 lead, but Waterford improved as the half wore on and they trailed by just three points, 0-6 to 0-9, at the break.

However, Rory Donnelly's goal 12 minutes into the second half turned the tide decisively in the Banner County's favour. By then, Waterford had already been reduced to 14 players following the 44th minute dismissal of Shane Ahearne on a second yellow card.

Gary Hurney and Joey Veale were also issued with second yellow cards in the 62nd and 67th minutes, while Clare's Gordon Kelly also saw red in the 55th minute. Tweet
