McGrath Cup: Early goals prove crucial for ITT

January 09, 2012
Two goals inside the first 10 minutes of play from Kerry's Mikey Brennan and Alan O'Donoghue proved crucial as IT Tralee recorded a six-point victory over Waterford at Carriganore on Sunday.

Brennan opened the net on 3 minutes to give his side a perfect start and minutes later full forward O'Donoghue punished the home side with their second.

The absence of a number of regulars including Thomas and Maurice O'Gorman who have opted to concentrate on hurling in 2012 proved to be a huge loss for the Deise.

Trailing by nine points at the break - 0-5 to 2-8, the home side made a major improvement with Gary Hurney racking up a personal tally of ten points.

Scores from midfielder Rory Deane who was outstanding through out, Barry O'Hare and O'Donoghue made sure the students would book their place in the next round of the McGrath Cup. Full time score - Waterford 0-14 IT Tralee 2-14.
