Big weekend for Waterford hopefuls

Waterford hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald
Waterford hurling boss Davy Fitzgerald will run the rule over potential panellists when he stages two challenge matches in Carriganore tomorrow.
The former Clare goalkeeper will field development teams against Carlow and WIT in the hope of unearthing new talent. Some of the hopefuls on view could see action in the National League, particularly as Fitzgerald looks set to operate the same policy as last year when he gave his long-serving stars an extended break.
In this regard, Tony Browne, Ken McGrath and Eoin Kelly have been told they don't need to return to full training until closer to the championship, while Declan Prendergast is currently sidelined with a hip injury.
In addition, John Mullane and Kevin Moran won't return until De La Salle's involvement in the All-Ireland club championship is over.
