Murphy hoping to make experience count

November 26, 2009
St Anne's captain Mairead Murphy is hopeful that experience will count in her team's favour on Sunday when they take on Derry champions Lavey in the All-Ireland club junior camogie championship final. Sunday's decider at Ashbourne is a first All-Ireland appearance for both of these teams, but a number of the St Anne's players have already had the experience of playing in an All-Ireland final this year, having lost out to Offaly in September with Waterford at Croke Park. "I think having All-Ireland experience already this year behind us is huge. It's not only the eight of us that were involved in the Waterford set-up that have contested an All-Ireland final this year but we have players that have also played in the Under 16 and minor All-Ireland finals," said Murphy. "Generally the experience of playing in big matches seems to stand to certain teams and we'll be hoping that it will be more of the same from our point if view this weekend." Lavey will present stiff opposition to the Saints, after impressing in Derry and Ulster to book their place into this decider, but the skipper is still confident her side can claim a historic triumph this weekend. "We're expecting a very tough game and we couldn't expect anything different for an All-Ireland final. I suppose for everyone involved in our club, it's going to be a great occasion and it's one that we're really looking forward to."
