Waterford SHC: Gunners off to a flier

Ballygunner's quest for a six-in-a-row of Waterford SHC titles began with a 2-26 to 0-18 victory over Clonea in Walsh Park yesterday.

Peter Hogan and Barry O'Sullivan scored second half goals as the county and provincial champions opened their campaign in style.

Elsewhere, Neil Montgomery grabbed 2-3 as Peter Queally's Abbeyside accounted for Fourmilewater by 2-16 to 0-13, while goals from Eoghan Reilly and sub Liam Flynn helped Passage to a 2-17 to 2-13 win over Ballyduff Upper. Evan McGrath and Martin F O'Neill were among the goals as Mount Sion saw off 13-man Roanmore on a 3-17 to 0-13 scoreline.

The first round action continues today with an attractive double-header in Fraher Field. Tallow and Dungarvan face off at 2.15pm, with De La Salle and Lismore meeting at 4pm.
