Kerry/Donegal 3-17 Rockland 1-05 Kerry/Donegal was crowned the Peter Connaughton Cup champions after a convincing win over Rockland on Sunday last. Despite falling behind 2 points to one when Jenny Kirby had the brace for Rockland, KD put 2-05 on the board to blow their opponents out of the water. The goals came from Loretta Cunningham when she broke free and made no mistake from close range on both occasions while Denise Dunnion, Sue Bennett, Benny Tuohy and Cunningham slotted over the points. The one two punch of Cunningham and Dunnion was clinical for the champions. Sara Rowley pulled one point back but again the combination squad went to the score card. Tuohy and Dunnion had points before Denise finished the half with a well taken goal. Rockland had their best period of the game at the opening of the second half when Kerri Lowry soloed in for a goal and it was followed by a point by Courtney Traynor. It was short lived however as Kerry tallyed nine points over the waning 25 minutes from a host of different scorers. They used all their subs in the mix and Sharon Mulligan took her shot at the forward line with open arms and slotted over two excellent scores. Courtney Traynor had a brilliant score in reply and in due respect to Rockland they never stopped battling. It was however an up hill climb but they are to be commended for their battling will power. Una Burke, Michelle McVann, Alison Kelly Denise Dunnion and Loretta Cunningham all had impressive days for the winners while Kerri Lowry, Jenny Kirby, Courtney Traynor who has a very bright future and Sarah Rowley all played well for Rockland.
