Five Mayo players make our team of the week after their ruthless dismantling of Donegal’s All-Ireland ambitions on Saturday evening…

 

1. Evan Comerford (Dublin)

Stephen Cluxton’s understudy got a rare start between the posts and pulled off a fine save to deny Connor McAliskey.

2. Chris Barrett (Mayo)

Roamed forward to kick a point and carried out his defensive duties with the minimum of fuss.

3. Conor McGill (Meath)

The Royal County’s number three restricted the in-form Paul Geaney to a solitary point in Pairc Tailteann.

4. Padraig Hampsey (Tyrone)

The All-Star defender was one of the standout performers for Mickey Harte’s makeshift side.

5. Lee Keegan (Mayo)

Handed the man-marking duties on Michael Murphy, the former Footballer of the Year impressively rose to the challenge.

6. Colm Boyle (Mayo)

The tenacious defender would have featured prominently in the ‘man-of-the-match’ deliberations.

7. Brian O Beaglaoich (Kerry)

A late replacement for Shane Enright, his frequent forays into enemy territory caused problems for the Meath defence and he contributed 1-1 to the Kingdom’s cause.

8. Aidan O’Shea (Mayo)

Along with his brother Seamus, O’Shea gave the Connacht side a physical edge around the middle third of the field.
 
9. Shane Killoran (Roscommon)

The midfielder’s 69th minute goal proved to be the difference against Cork at Pairc Ui Rinn.

10. Brian Stack (Roscommon)

Stack took the scoring honours for the Connacht champions with two goals as they secured a first Super 8s win at the sixth attempt. 

11. Sean O’Shea (Kerry)

With David Clifford ruled out due to a back injury, O’Shea stepped up to the plate with an outstanding individual display that saw him accumulate 1-8 (1-3 from play).

12. Paddy Durcan (Mayo)

Not content with curbing Ryan McHugh’s influence, the fit-again vice-captain kicked three crucial points for James Horan’s men.

13. Sean Bugler (Dublin)

Marked his senior championship debut with a ‘man-of-the-match’ performance that yielded three points and showed good vision to create the opening for Eoghan O’Gara’s goal.

14. Shane Walsh (Meath)

Starting his first championship game, the 19-year-old posed plenty of headaches for Kerry full-back Tadhg Morley and raised six (three from play) white flags.

15. Connor McAliskey (Tyrone)

McAliskey did his chances of seeing some action against Kerry next Sunday no harm at all with a six-point return against the Dubs.
