St Josephs club notes

Senior Football

What a whirlwind game we had at Greenford v St.Brendans in the semi-final of the IFC on Sunday. St.Brendans were the first out of the traps and raced into a 4 point lead before the Joes lads got their act together and registered their first score from the boot of Shane Ruane. The Joes got another from James Gartlan prior to Eamonn McGovern converting a major from the penalty spot to leave them a point to the good after an indifferent opening first 15 minutes. The St.Brendans popped over their own scores but the Joes kept their end of the bargain via scores from Eamonn McGovern and Shane Ruane to leave the minimum in it at half time.

HT 1-05 to 0-07

In second half playing with the wind, the Joes did not make the most of the slight advantage however started the brighter with a pointed scores from Shane Ruane and Mark Porter, this left the Joes 4 up with 20 to play. As expected the Brendans lads pushed on and started chipping away at the scoreboard with the Joes lads missing some great chances to really kill the game off, this giving the opposition encouragement going into the final 5 minutes. The Brendans lads got themselves into the lead and looked to have the game won when the Joes manufactured a wonderful most and won a free within the dying seconds of the game… up stepped club stalwart Mark McNulty to split the posts and send the game to a replay.

Loads for the fellas to work on going into the replay. Scorers on the day Shane Ruane 0-4, Mark Porter 0-1, James Gartlan 0-1, Eamonn McGovern 1-02, Mark McNulty 0-1.

The replay will take place in Ruislip this Sunday 16th September with a 15:30 throw in. Please keep an eye on the Facebook and Twitter pages should any changes take place.
