All Britain Minor Football Semi-final

July 03, 2008
"Minors do Herts proud as London's strength proves decisive in extra-time. The sides finished 1.13 apiece at the end of normal time and were still deadlocked at the break in extra time. No score had been added but the Metropolis had the durability to maintain the tempo to the end to win by five points when the final whistle was blown, London 1.19 : Hertfordshire 1.14 as the home side tired. This All Britain semi-final was a showcase game. Both sides battled for every ball as if their lives depended upon winning it. At the same time, the teams, including all the substitutes introduced, showed an alacritous willingness to play the ball end to end at lightning speed. Pierse McGlynn, from Daire Og, the Herts' captain was the dominant player in the opening quarter before suffering a hand injury that dampened his game before he eventually retired.  Not many games will surpass this one this year for thrills and spills. Credit to all involved including mentors and Reiteoir, Noel Griffin (St Josephs) and his team of officials for contributing to a wonderful spectacle."
