John Mitchels Liverpool Club Notes

April 14, 2014
Since holding another very successful dinner dance at the beginning of last month, where we celebrated success on and off the field: Mitchels have been back training in the hope of retaining their Senior County title. The words our guest of honour the President elect Mr Aogan O'Farrell (this being his first official engagement since winning the election) gave during the night regarding our U-12 Championship success and the commitment of their mentors and during the All Britain Championship, Lancashire Senior Championship and Junior League medal presentation to the players will encourage us greatly for the year ahead.

The night also saw a presentation by the Walsh and Johnson family to the club, a beautiful trophy that will be engraved every year with the name of that years 'Player of the Year'. Club chairman Barry Morris said' This trophy is a fitting tribute to Chris Johnson and Tommy Walsh, two great stalwarts of the club that were involved with the club for over 60yrs' he also added ' Both men will always be remembered by the club and we thank the families for this presentation'.

Club PRO Danny McDonagh remarked 'Chris and Tommy were great mentors for me and Barry; they prevailed through different and sometimes difficult times but always gave their best to the club'.

PREVIOUS RESULT - 6/04/2014 - Home win in the Pennine League v the league champions, Oisins (Manchester) with a score line of 13pts to 6. Paddy Mulligan had his scoring boots on, Micheal Mooney made some great saves on his debut to keep us safe the other end of the pitch, Dean Currall also made his debut for the club. Eddie Jackson showed his pedigree and like some of the horses on show the previous day in the Grand National at Aintree he covered plenty of ground ...although maybe not at the same speed!? A good game and a great team effort but plenty of work to do.

LAST GAME - 12/04/2014 - Sunday the senior lads were victorious again, away to St.Brendans in Manchester playing in Hough End with a score line of 1 13 to 1 08. Things didn't go to plan in the first half, but the lads showed plenty of character in the second half to come back from a deficit of 3pts to win the game. Ciaran Lynam troubled the opposition back line all day; the stretch material in his jersey was well tested, in a good sporting game. Debuts were given to Padraig McGuirk, Anton Kelly and Ben McQuaid which was also great to see.

NEXT GAMES - 20/04/2014 - Away to Oisins in manchester @12.30pm.
- 27/04/2014 - Away to St Benedict's in Leeds @12.30pm.
