Walsh: we've only ourselves to blame
January 26, 2012
Robert Emmett's midfielder Mark Walsh admits the missed chances against Mount Leinster Rangers cost them a place in the All-Ireland club IHC final.
The London champions came back strongly against MLR, but they scorned 12 scoring chances in the first half and Walsh feels that they can't blame anyone only themselves.
"We were well good enough to win it, but they hounded us down and we didn't get a second on the ball," Walsh admitted to the Irish Post. "They hunted us in packs of twos and threes but the old cliché of a game of two halves was really true in this case. We had the wind in the first half but we didn't make use of it.
"To be only two points up at half time with that wind at our backs was scandalous. That number of wides was unforgivable. We have a great full forward line but we didn't use it. We were just turning and hitting the ball wildly and it was going harmlessly wide."
