St Brendans GFC London notes
June 15, 2009
Club Notes:
At the weekend St Brendans faced KKG in a league match at Ruislip. Again with a side which had many first team players absent St Brendans found it difficult to put points on the board. The first half saw a good display of attacking football from St Brendans, however they could not seem to score and went in one point down at half time. The second half began at a much slower pace due to the very hot conditions and saw KKG stick a few unanswered points on the board. When St Brendans finally got into gear they found it too difficult to make up the difference and ended up loosing the match.
On Sunday, again in very hot conditions the first reserve match of the year got underway. The match against North London Shamrocks proved a difficult one for some of the veterans to get into and St Brendans were behind at half time by four points. An inspired team talk saw a complete change in the second half. St Brendans showed much more composure on the ball and began scoring some outrageously good points. A poor tackle saw NLS reduced to 14 men and St Brendans capitalised on that scoring a number of goals and comfortably ensuring they won the match. Captain James Kelly leading the way with a well taken goal. Score of the match came from long serving member Brian Close who took the ball past 7 men to shoot from the 40 yard line straight over the black spot. It seems that early retirement >from the seniors has helped with the big mans shooting. Well done to all those who made the long journey. Keep up the training!
There are no matches scheduled for next weekend, however the next senior league match should be next Tuesday night(23rd June), with the reserves playing the following Saturday (27th June).
