Dual dilemma in Leitrim

Leitrim manager Martin Cunniffe has called on his football counterpart Brendan Guckian to release Colm Moreton to play in the NHL Division 3B final.

Moreton is a dual player and member of both Leitrim senior squads. This weekend, he has been left in a predicament where the county's hurlers and footballers are playing on Sunday.

The hurlers face Lancashire in the 3B final, which will take place in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan at 12pm. Then the footballers face Wicklow in their last game of the NFL 4 campaign at Carrick-on-Shannon at 1pm. This means it will be impossible for Moreton to line out in both.

Cunniffe feels that the fact that the hurlers are in a league final should mean that the player is released for the hurling and the manager told the Leitrim Observer that Moreton is keen to play in the final.

"This is a final, a league final and Leitrim footballers game isn't all that important in fairness," stated Cunniffe. "Colm Moreton is a big part of our game and hopefully, Leitrim management will see fit to make him available, it is a once off game.

"Colm himself wants to play and be with us on the day. He would be a huge boost to us and he scored the vital goal against Fermanagh."
