Tyrone mystified by one-liner

March 16, 2007
Tyrone County Board Secretary Dominic McCaughey says the O'Neill County still hasn't been informed by the Ulster Council why they were stripped of the McKenna Cup. The Ulster Council's Competition Control Committee decided at a meeting on Tuesday night last that Tyrone breached the GAA's Rule 114 regarding their team sheet. But McCaughey maintains they haven't been given an official explanation as to why the Cup has been taken off them. "We were sent a one-line email saying that the game was forfeited and that's all we know," McCaughey explained. And the Tyrone official says he couldn't say whether third-level college players Damien McCaul and Cathal McCarron were listed on the O'Neill County's team-sheet for the final. "I wasn't at the game myself, so I'm not sure what happened. We are still waiting for notification and to get a look at the team sheet we submitted."
