Greencastle will get to train in Croke Park
28 February 2007Ulster and Tyrone champions, Greencastle will train in Croke Park on Saturday, 3rd of March β a week ahead of their All-Ireland JFC final meeting with Kerry and Munster title-holders, Duagh of Kerry.
Greencastle have been given permission by the GAA authorities to avail of the opportunity to get a feel of the stadium in preparation for the greatest occasion in the clubs history.
It is understood that the session at Headquarters will take place on Saturday evening in order to duplicate as closely as possible the conditions they will experience on the big day, when Croke Park will host its first-ever floodlit club game.
Greencastle team-manager Sean Teague believes the outing and training session in Croke Park this Saturday evening will be of immense value to his side, not least in terms of helping the players cope with the imtimidating surroundings of the world-famous stadium.
βIt will be important. Hopefully, it will take away the awe factor and give the players a better chance to settle and play to their ability. And when we go out for the final on Saturday week in Croke Park, the surroundings wont be as intimidating as they would have been had we not got a feel for the stadium beforehand, said Teague.
Greencastle making history on two fronts
Greencastle club will be making history on at least two fronts on Saturday week in the All-Ireland JFC clash with Duagh of Kerry. They will be the first club team from Co. Tyrone to play in an All-Ireland final in Croke Park, and the first also to play under lights β but they want to go all the way and take a first national club title back to the county.
