Tyrone minor championship opens on bitter night

April 28, 2015

The Club minor footballers were on duty on Monday night with the Minor football championship getting underway, on a poor night weather wise the football played all over the county was of the highest standard and while there were some close battles some teams seemed to cut loose with some big scores racked up.
In Grade one there was quarter final joy for Castlederg who eventually edged out Carrickmore and their neighbours Ahyaran are through thanks to a 4-7 to 1-5 win over Fr Rocks. Errigal followed on where their impressive seniors, backboned by this minor squad left off with a big win over Glenelly.
A fancied Coalisland lived up to their early billing as they eventually saw of a stubborn Omagh at Fr Campbell Park with two late goals as Grade two opened. The St Enda's had trailed at the break but quickly rallied and looked on course only for the hosts to fire in two three pointers. Omagh threw everything at the Fianna goal with their young goalkeeper superb. As Galbally failed to field against Dromore Clonoe turned on the style at Ardboe rattling up a massive score to progress.
Drumragh and Edendork advanced in grade three, The Sarsfield's were always in control at Clanabogan Park, they led 1-7 to 0-3 at the break and despite a Sigerson's goal there was no way back as Drumragh piled on the agony latching on a further five goals.
Rock were big winners in grade four as they eventually beat Aghaloo while in an entertaining tie at St Marys Park it was home side Beragh who beat Trillick. There was little between the sides throughout but the goals proved crucial. Pomeroy and Clann Na Ngael also progress
