Defying the odds

New York coach Mickey Coleman admits that preparing the side is not an easy task.
Coleman, who was a double All-Ireland winner with Tyrone in the past is the current coach of the New York side that plays Sligo in the Connacht Championship this weekend.
Teams travelling from home have generally recorded a comfortable win in Gaelic Park, although that trend has turned somewhat as the exiles seem to be closing the gap.
However, Coleman admitted to Gaelic Life that it was certainly not easy getting the squad together for training, let alone prepare the side for such a big game.
"You're fighting against all odds. First and foremost counties at home have a conveyor belt of players available throughout the county chomping at the bit," said Coleman.
"We don't have that. Secondly, work comes first out here. We have lads driving and hour and a half from Connecticut for training, lads pouring concrete in Staten Island, who have to jump on four or five trains to get to Yonkers for training, other fellas working late. There are nights that you just don't have the numbers."
