McCarron: Monkey's off Tyrone's back

May 01, 2012

Tyrone's Cathal McCarron and Padraig O'Neill of Kildare.
Cathal McCarron isn't overly despondent about Tyrone losing their unbeaten record in 2012.

Though naturally disappointed to have lost a final in Croke Park, the wing back says the O'Neill County's first competitive loss of the year removes a lot of pressure:

"These winning streaks are great but it's always hanging over you - pressure, pressure, unbeaten, unbeaten. I suppose that's out of the way now and we can concentrate on the next game.

"It's hateful losing a winning streak, surely, but, here, hopefully there are bigger days ahead," he continues in The Irish News.

"It was disappointing to lose. We thought we were in it towards the end. I thought in the second half our workrate was brilliant.

"Up until halfway through, either of us could have won it but that Kildare substitute came on and scored a few points and they kicked a few long-range scores. It was their day and good luck to them.

"Fair play to Kildare, they've worked hard. It's a long year; hopefully we'll be back and we'll meet them again."
