McAlister makes it a double
May 01, 2012Fresh from his success at the Titanic 10K last weekend, St Malachy's runner Joe McAlister made light work of the impressive field at this year's Powerade Queen's Sport 5K Road Race which took place on Thursday 26 April.
Over 400 athletes took part with the top prizes male and female open going to Joe McAlister fresh of his 10k Titanic Road Race victory with a time of 00:15:04 and Dromore athlete Julie Turley with a time of 00:16:56. Irish Gold Medal winning Para Olympian from Beijing, Michael McKillop, also representing St Malachy's finished second in the Male Open race.
The race, now in its 10th year, has continued to attract hundreds of students, Queen's Sport members, Northern Ireland's top distance runners and members of the local community. The event places a strong emphasis on student involvement in not only participating, but also marshalling and event management, providing invaluable experience for all those who get involved.
