The 'Spirit of Carmen'

March 02, 2010
An Chárraig Mhór GFC embark on another ambitious fundraising scheme this Saturday 6th March. The launch of the 'Spirit of Carmen' takes place in the Patrician at 8pm.This special function is intended as a thank you to all who have supported 'Club Carmen' since its inception and as a rededication to the cause of An Chárraig Mhór GFC under the new banner of the 'Spirit of Carmen'.
Always to the forefront in structural development the club hope to continue its long standing tradition of providing state of art facilities for club players and members. Since the opening of Pairc Colmcille every attempt has been made to keep pace with the rapidly changing face of GAA grounds. With this in mind a seven year project has already got under way with phase one seeing the refurbishment of the main dressing rooms and remedial repair work to the flood lit training pitch. The main drive behind this current programme, phase two, will see the resurfacing of the main pitch which has essentially remained the same since its was first opened way back in 1971. Phase three intends to provide floodlights for the main pitch and phase four a total redevelopment of the changing facilities. There is no hiding the fact that all of this will require finance and so the club is confident that many players, members, supporters and parents will pledge their support over the next five years. Saturday night will afford them the opportunity to plough something back into the club from which they have received so much. Chairman Mick Daly will welcome everyone associated with the club to the Patrician on Saturday night and will impress upon them the need to fall in behind the new scheme so that club teams can continue to challenge for honours on the field of play. Club Treasurer Sean Kerr, speaking about the launch, called on all those connected with the club to become part of the 'Spirit of Carmen', an initiative which he says will allow this generation to hand the club onto the next in a healthy state.
Also high on the agenda for the night will be the recognition of our Club President for 2010, Roddy Gormley. Roddy joins an illustrious list of past presidents all of whom have been marked within the club as having made a significant contribution to An Chárraig Mhór GFC. As a player, manager, committee member and supporter his commitment to the club has been unwavering. Furthermore, he has passed this love of the club onto his own family. Their contribution to the club on and off the field of play carries his legacy into another generation. Roddy will be presented with his specially commissioned presidential medal on a night which will also see the Junior Ladies Champions and Ladies Senior B Champions honoured.
So for the gaels of Carrickmore this Saturday night all roads lead to the Patrician where once more the club cause can be reiterated. No doubt this event will prove to be springboard for a continuation of the success enjoyed by the club since its foundation in 1932.
