All-Ireland club JHC semi-final: Columcille book final place

January 25, 2010
Tyrone hurling received a major boost at Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan yesterday when Naomh Columcille defeated Sligo's Calry-St. Joseph's to reach the AIB All-Ireland club JHC final. Naomh Columcille (Tyrone) 2-7 Calry-St. Joseph's (Sligo) 0-10 Two goals in a four-minute second half spell proved crucial in the Ulster champions' success. Niall O'Neill scored the first directly from a '65' in the 46th minute and that was followed soon afterwards by a Rory O'Neill effort. Connacht star Keith Raymond replied with two late frees for Calry, but it wasn't enough to save them. Naomh Columcille's victory was all the more noteworthy as they had full forward Paul O'Neill sent off in the 23rd minute. They trailed by 0-4 to 0-6 at half-time, but never looked back after their first goal went in. They will face either Blackrock of Limerick or Kilkenny's Black & Whites in the All-Ireland final. The Kilkenny champions hammered John Mitchels of Warwickshire by 4-19 to 0-2 in their quarter-final tie at Nowlan Park on Saturday.
