McKenna Cup: Red Hands blitz Cavan to reach semis
January 24, 2010

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte
Tyrone cruised into the last four of the Dr McKenna Cup following this emphatic victory over Cavan at Healy Park last night.
Tyrone 2-17
Cavan 1-4
The game was delayed by half an hour due to dense fog, but when the action did eventually get underway, Mickey Harte's side were in a different class to a Cavan side that has lost all three of its games in this year's competition.
Tommy Carr's charges opened brightly with points from Gareth 'Nesty' Smith and Sean Brady, but the home side took over after that and had eased into a 0-6 to 0-2 lead by the 28th minute thanks to scores from Niall McKenna, Eoin McCusker and Stephen O'Neill.
Martin Cahill replied with a point for the Breffnimen, but Tyrone stepped on the gas again and a 33rd minute goal from Mark Donnelly gave them a 1-8 to 0-3 lead at the interval.
The second half was a one-sided affair which saw the Red Hands do as they pleased. After Stephen O'Neill, Mattie Donnelly and Mark Donnelly had extended their advantage, the latter bagged a second goal in the 55th minute which followed a brilliant move involving Kevin Hughes, Mickey Murphy and Peter Harte.
Eoin McCusker tagged on a couple of points before Alan Clarke got in for a consolation goal for the visitors. But the agony didn't end there for Cavan as Tyrone hit the final four points of the game, with the impressive Mattie Donnolly accounting for two of them.
