Holders drawn against Abbey CBS in MacRory Cup

22 December 2009

Three-in-a-row chasing St. Patrick's Academy, Dungannon have been paired with Abbey CBS Newry in the quarter-finals of the MacRory Cup.

It was undoubtedly the glamour tie of yesterday's draw which was made at the headquarters of sponsors BT in Belfast. Both teams have former Tyrone footballers at the helm - Ciaran Gourley (St. Patrick's) and Jody Gormley (Abbey CBS).

Under the guidance of Gourley and the long-serving Peter Herron, Dungannon have been the major power in Ulster Colleges football in recent years, winning the last two MacRory Cups as well as the All-Ireland Hogan Cup in 2008.

Former Antrim manager Gormley has an excellent track record with Abbey CBS, having masterminded their 2006 Hogan Cup success. Both schools have won the MacRory Cup on five occasions.

Ulster Colleges MacRory Cup Quarter-Finals: Omagh CBS v St Patrick's College Maghera, St Colman's College Newry v St Patrick's GS Armagh, St Patrick's Academy Dungannon v Abbey CBS Newry, St Mary's GS Magherafelt v St Macartan's College Monaghan. Matches will be played on weekend of February 5/6.
