Under 13 League Semi-Final An Mhaigh 3-2 Owen Roes 4-3 An Mhaigh Under 13 footballers had their league title hopes dashed in dramatic circumstances at Páirc Thír na nÓg last Saturday. The young Sky Blues were in front right up until injury-time at the end of the match when their opponents, a superb Owen Roes team, staged a grandstand finish to snatch victory in this semi-final tie. Team mentor Marty Conroy reports: "We played with a strong wind in the first half and built up a 3-2 to 0-1 lead with goals from Philip Mallon, Ryan Coleman and Shay Armstrong and the points coming from Ryan Coleman and a superb long range free from Declan Conroy. "The second half was a totally different scenario as we tried to defend against an Owen Roes onslaught. They slowly pegged us back and, entering the last minute, they were awarded a penalty which they scored to draw level and then kicked a goal and a point in injury time. The lads were totally devastated at full-time but have resolved to put in extra work over the winter in an attempt to win a trophy at under 14 level next year. "It was a testament to the character of the squad that three players who had flu all week were totally determined to play in the match and not let their team-mates down. Players of the match must go to Patrick Mackle and Eoin (Mugsy) Kelly at full back who were outstanding." Team: Tom Loughran; Patrick Mackle, Eoin Kelly; Liam Lynch, Patrick Lavery, Jack Campbell; Declan Conroy and Chris O'Neill; Francie Kelly, Rory Magee, Philip Mallon; Shay Armstrong, Ryan Coleman.
