Gormley: Ulster title not won yet

June 24, 2009

Tyrone's Conor Gormley
Tyrone defender Conor Gormley has dismissed suggestions that next month's Ulster SFC final is a foregone conclusion. The Red Hands are odds-on favourites to beat the winners of Saturday's second Ulster semi-final between Antrim and Cavan following their victories over fellow big guns Armagh and Derry, but Gormley insists that there is still a lot of work to being done before the Anglo-Celt Cup is won. "It's probably not the final people would have expected, but you've got to give them (Antrim and Cavan) full credit for their victories against Fermanagh and Donegal and it's going to be a tough game no matter who comes through for us," he said. "We have to be setting our sights as if it's Kerry we're playing. We can't take it for granted that we're going to just land in Clones and win an Ulster title. Definitely not. We have a lot of work to do. "Will we go in red-hot favourites? I suppose we will. I suppose the usual stuff will be written that Tyrone is just going to turn up and 'there you are, there's another Ulster title for you'. No way. "Antrim or Cavan is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the opportunity to play an Ulster final, play against Tyrone and everybody writing them off. We are not looking at an All-Ireland final or anything like that, only the Ulster final." Meanwhile, Joe McMahon is expected to be fit for the decider on July 19 after x-rays revealed that he had not suffered broken ribs in last Sunday's win over Derry.
