Strabane Sigersons GAA Club Notes

Ladies Football: The minor girls played their final league game last Monday night away to Moy and scored a convincing 3-18 to 1-3 win. They now await their opponents in the forthcoming league final with Badoney and Edendork set to meet in a play off and Sigersons facing the winners. The final may be played next Tuesday night but will be posted on the club website when available. Coaching for the clubs Minor and Juvenile Ladies squads will continue on Monday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. Any queries contact Isaac Hassan, Mickey Joe Friel or Marty Conway. Training for the Senior Ladies continues on Monday nights at Páirc Mhic Sioghair from 6:30pm - 7:30pm. Training is also on Wednesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. The senior Ladies had a walkover against Pomeroy in the league last Saturday night with the opposition unable to field a team at very short notice. The senior ladies may have a challenge game this weekend; the team management will inform all players. Next Friday night 6th June, the senior ladies will travel to Fintona to play Loughmacrory in the Tyrone Junior Championship. The girls Under 14 footballers travelled to play Edendork in the league on Tuesday night past and despite a good performance lost to the home side. The Under 12 girls were due to play Badoney in the league this Saturday morning but the game has been cancelled to a later date. There will be training for all Under 14, 12 and 10 girls at the club grounds from 7:00-8:00pm every Tuesday night. All new players are very welcome. All female players are asked to ensure that they have their registration fees fully paid up. Commiserations are extended to both Tyrone Under 14 squads who lost out to Cork and Tipperary respectively in last Sundays All Ireland quarterfinals in Banagher, County Offaly. Adult Football: The senior and reserve teams both recorded another two fine wins at home to Owen Roes last Sunday afternoon. The senior team won 0-12 to 0-8 whilst the reserves won 2-18 to 1-4. The games were very kindly sponsored by The Strabane Chronicle, Upper Main Street, to whom we extend our warmest thanks. Prior to both games last Sunday, a minute silence was observed in memory of Molly Doherty, Owenreagh Drive who was the grandmother of reserve team manager Johnny McHugh. The clubs reserve footballers will travel to play Aghaloo tomorrow night (Friday) in a re-fixture. Transport will leave the clubrooms at 6:15pm sharp. All support welcome. The seniors and reserves have no games this Sunday owing to Brockagh withdrawing from the League Cup. The following Friday night both teams will play Owen Roes also in the League Cup but it is not yet sure where these games will be played as the Owen Roes pitch is under reconstruction. The next scheduled league games are away to Brockagh on Sunday 15th June. Training for the clubs senior and reserve teams continues on Wednesday and Friday nights at Páirc Mhic Sioghair. All players are asked to be on the pitch and ready to go for 7:40pm each night. Any players who are unable to attend any of the sessions are asked to ensure that they contact Dermot or Dessie. Danny McBride: Everyone at the club extends best wishes to club senior player Danny McBride who is off to Boston for the summer to play with the local Aiden McAnespie's club. We wish him well and look forward to welcoming him back. Don't stay as long as "Benny"! Happy 21st Stephen: Happy 21st birthday greetings are extended to club senior player Stephen Stewart who celebrated his birthday last Friday but held back on the celebrations to Sunday night like a true professional! Youth Football: Coaching for the clubs Juvenile (Under 16's) footballers will continue every Tuesday night from 6:30pm - 7:30pm at Páirc Mhic Sioghair, all new players welcome. The Juveniles along with Dromore are representing Tyrone in an invitational tournament organised by the Ulster Council this Saturday at Lissan, County Fermanagh. Transport will leave the clubrooms at 9:15am. All players are asked to bring a packed lunch and £1:50 for the bus. Strabane will play in the same section as Tempo, Derrygonnelly, Naomh Brid and Belnaleck. The Juveniles will play in the annual Clann na nGael tournament in memory of Aidan O'Kane on Saturday 28th June. More details will be known closer to the date. The Under 15 Óg Sport competition will get underway next Wednesday night at Omagh. Sigersons will play in the same group section as Omagh and Greencastle. Transport will leave the clubrooms at 6:00pm sharp. The Under 14's were well beaten away to Omagh in the quarter final of the Grade One Under 14 championship last Saturday and must now concentrate all their efforts on the league quarterfinals although they have been handed a very difficult draw away to Cookstown. A date and time for this game will be announced later as twelve of the Sigersons players are off to Birmingham this weekend. Training for the Under 14 squad is on Wednesday nights from 6:15pm - 7:30pm at Páirc Mhic Sioghair; all players are asked to be in attendance. All players are asked to be at the clubrooms by 6:45pm at the latest. The second of the Under 10 Blitzes was held in Carrickmore last Saturday and both Strabane teams enjoyed their day and the kind hospitality of the home club. The next Under 8 Blitz will be held on Saturday 7th June in Killyclogher. There will be Coaching for the clubs Under 12, 10 and 8 age groups this Saturday morning at the club grounds from 11am - 12noon. Coaching for all Under 12, 10 and 8 age groups will also take place every Tuesday night from 7-8pm at the club grounds. New players are always welcome. Registration fees for youth players are £5:00 per child. Birmingham Trip: Best wishes are extended to the twelve Sigersons Under 13 players and their three mentors who are off to Birmingham tomorrow morning (Friday) to play in the International Féile organised by the Warwickshire G.A.A. Board. Strabane are the only Tyrone club participating in the event and we wish them all well in their endeavours and a safe journey. A full report on the trip will appear in next week's notes. Comhghairdeas: Congratulations to Gaelscoil Uí Dhochartaigh who won the shield at the recent Gael Linn Blitz held in Falcarragh. First Aid Course: The club in conjunction with Cairde organised a one day First Aid Course last Saturday at Ballycolman Community Centre with twelve participants in attendance. Thanks are extended to the course tutors Gary Williamson and Bernie Gallagher. The club wish to pay a warm word of thanks to Cairde and in particular to Jarlath McNulty who accessed the funding to make the course possible. The club are hoping to organise more courses and events in partnership with Cairde and other community organisations in the not too distant future. Night at the Races: Warmest thanks are extended to everyone who made the recent Night at the Races held to raise funds for the Youth Trip to Birmingham such a great success. Thanks are extended to all those who bought or sold horses and those who came along on the night, special mention also to Niall Doherty, Eddie McDaid and Kieran O'Kane for their organisation and putting over of the event. Membership Fees: The club membership for 2008 has now been officially closed. Social Membership can still be paid and any new playing members at adult or youth levels (male and female) will also be accepted. All those who have paid their membership fees for 2008 are asked to play their part in club activities and especially in helping to raise funds such as the 400 Club Members Draw and the weekly Alphalot. Ulster Championship Tyrone v Down: All club members are asked to note that the Tyrone v Down games in the Ulster senior and minor championship will take place on Sunday 8th June at Healy Park, Omagh and will be all ticket games. Tickets will only be allocated to fully paid members of the football club! The club will allocate their quota of tickets next Thursday night 5th June at 7:30pm in the Social Club.
