Tyrone county grounds Healy Park in Omagh is set to closed for up to 12 months from May for major redevelopment work on the pitch.

The project is at the tender stage, but work has been pencilled in to start in May and will see the stadium closer for the entire year.

This will mean that Tyrone will have to play all their games away throughout the year should they be in the qualifiers or the Super 8s.

Omagh, St Enda’s chairman Conor Scally revealed to the Ulster Herald that the playing surface of the pitch is the focus of attention following a number of games cancelled due to the pitch being flooded.

“The pitch will be closed completely from May onwards, most likely for a period of 12 months,” said Scally.

“There has been a nervousness and fear surrounding the difficulties to the surface (of the pitch) if there is a significant amount of rainfall coming up to a major match.”
