McCullagh calls for changes to league format

August 16, 2019

Dromore manager Colm McCullagh feels that an eight-week break during the league is unsustainable.

Last weekend, the Tyrone leagues resumed after almost two months of inactivity and McCullagh is in no doubt that there needs to be changes made to the format.

“We played last on June 16th yet we have had to keep things going. It’s a case of maybe two or even three seasons now in one,” McCullagh states in the Ulster Herald.

“Club football is suffering and we will lose players if they have no football to play. The soccer season is starting shortly too and some boys will opt to play it – at the end of the day lads want to be playing.

The former county footballer believes that the leagues should be played without county players in order to give club footballers plenty of games.
