Fitzgerald dismissed as Nenagh boss

June 12, 2008
New Waterford manager Davy Fitzgerald has parted company with Nenagh Eire Og, who he had managed since the start of the year. Officials of the Tipperary club met on Tuesday night and decided to remove Fitzgerald from his post - 24 hours after his appointment as Waterford manager was confirmed. Nenagh felt that Fitzgerald would be unable to give a full commitment to them considering his new role and the fact that he is still playing for his club, Sixmilebridge. Fitzgerald was appointed to the Nenagh position earlier this year but after two successive losses to Borrisoleigh and Toomevara in the North Tipperary SHC, the former Clare goalkeeper's tenure was in doubt even before his appointment as Waterford manager. His dismissal comes in the wake of comments made on Tuesday morning when he pledged his commitment to Nenagh, stating that he wouldn't have taken on the club post if it had been his intention to walk away half way through the season. Fitzgerald took his first training session with the Waterford hurlers on Wednesday night.
