NFL: footballers complete Premier County’s dream day

20 April 2008

The footballers completed the first half of Tipperary’s super league double on Sunday by clinching promotion to Division Three.

Ardfinnan was the scene to joyous celebrations as the Premier County clinched their escape from the bottom flight - and the right to play in the qualifiers - with a dramatic 0-12 to 0-10 win over Wicklow.

This was an emotional occasion for a group of players still shocked by the tragic death of their colleague Darrel Darcy, but they did Darrel’s memory proud with a stirring display.

Not even the dismissal of Barry Grogan could stop the determined Tipp men in their tracks.

Brian Coen was the scorer-in-chief for the winners, banging over ten of their twelve points, including three from open play.
