Tipperary thumped Cork at Semple Stadium - 2-27 to 2-15 - to secure a league quarter-final clash with Division 1B winners Clare.

The result also means that the struggling Rebels will be in the Division 1A relegation decider against Galway, having lost all five of their outings in the league stage of the competition.

With 7,251 looking on at sunny Thurles this afternoon, the Premier County had the better of the first half to lead by 0-13 to 0-10 at the break. John O'Dwyer and Patrick Horgan each slotted a brace of points at either end as the hosts led by four points shortly after the restart.

Niall O'Meara's major in the 14th minute of the second half settling the game as any sort of contest, leaving ten between them, 1-19 to 0-12, and a brace of points from half-time substitute Seamus Callanan warmed the cockles of Tipp supporters' hearts.

Outstanding midfielder Michael Breen netted the second major for the winners five minutes from the end, with Horgan having bagged a three-pointer for the Rebels nine minutes earlier.

Paudie O'Sullivan pulled back a last-gasp consolation goal for the Rebel County, who can still pull their disastrous league campaign out of the fire if they beat Galway in a fortnight.
