Colin O'Riordan accepts that football continues to play second fiddle to hurling in Tipperary.

Having excelled for the Premier County in both codes last year, the teenager has bucked the trend in Tipp by opting to concentrate solely on the big ball this season.

Referring to the fact that Tipperary remains very much a hurling territory first and foremost, the JK Brackens clubman told The Irish Examiner: "That's understandable enough considering they are Division One and we are Division Three and they are contenders for the All-Ireland every year.

"They are going to fill stadiums whereas we have to play second fiddle at the moment. I suppose our aspiration is to get up with them, up to the top tier, and hopefully then we'll get the support.

"You can't fault them at the moment for supporting the hurlers more. It is moving towards a dual county; it's getting there slowly but there's a long way to go still. We're still in progression and it will take a few years yet."
