Loughmore take U21 spoils

May 11, 2012
Loughmore-Castleiney were crowned county under 21 football champions for the first time since 2006 thanks to a 3-11 to 1-11 victory over Arravale Rovers at Holycross last Saturday.

Two goals in the opening 10 minutes from Aidan McGrath and Liam McGrath (penalty) paved the way for Loughmore's victory. They went on to lead by 2-7 to 0-4 at the break with the McGraths helping themselves to some fine points.

Brian Lowry handed Arravale a lifeline when he netted 11 minutes after the restart and when Donagh Leahy followed up with a point, the margin was down to five points. But Loughmore weren't to be denied, with Eamonn Connolly's goal on the three-quarter hour mark finally putting the game beyond Arravale's reach.

In the county U21FC 'B' final, Borrisokane - with the help of a saved penalty by goalkeeper Shane Stapleton - overcame Clonmel Og on a 1-11 to 0-8 scoreline.
