FL3: Devaney goal the difference

February 05, 2012
Roscommon 1-12
Tipperary 0-12

Des Newton secured his first win as Roscommon manager at Tipperary's expense in Kiltoom.

Promoted from Division 4 last year, the Rossies just about deserved their victory with Conor Devaney's 46th minute goal proving decisive. The home side led by 0-4 to 0-2 after 19 minutes thanks to points from Niall Daly, Donie Shine (two frees) and Kevin Higgins, but scores from Philip Austin and Eoghan Ryan ensured Tipp of parity at the break.

Roscommon looked to have gained the upper hand when Devaney netted after good work by Darren McDermott, but Tipp responded with points from Austin and substitute Shane Ryan to leave the minimum in it with two minutes remaining.

However, the home side closed out the game with late minors from Daly (free) and John Rogers.
