Ryan says Tipp are ahead of schedule

Tipp hurling manager Declan Ryan
Declan Ryan believes Tipperary are more "advanced" in their preparation work than they were this time last year.

Speaking after yesterday's 2-24 to 1-16 Waterford Crystal Cup preliminary round victory over LIT, the Tipp manager said: "We have to be pleased with the victory and the manner in which we went about it.

"I suppose when they lost their defender (John O'Keeffe was sent off in the third quarter), the whole game opened up for us and we were able to tag on the scores to pull clear. It was a good competitive contest - the kind we want at this time of year.

"We are a lot more advanced this time round and I supposed that showed out there too. We have a few new lads out there at the moment and we are giving them a chance because they have shown up well in training.

"We'll continue to do that as long as they continue to impress in training."
