Hurlers get season underway as footballers face UCC

January 20, 2012
Tipperary's hurlers will play their first game since last September's shattering All-Ireland final defeat to Kilkenny on Sunday when they host LIT in the preliminary round of the Waterford Crystal Cup.

The game, which will throw-in in Dolla at 2pm, will afford manager Declan Ryan the opportunity to blood new players, while it will also be an opportunity to get last year's disappointment out of the system. Tipp haven't won this competition since 2008, so they will be hoping to make an impact before their NHL opener against Kilkenny on February 26.

Meanwhile, John Evans' footballers will aim to reach the McGrath Cup final for the first time since 2003 when they entertain UCC in Clonmel on Sunday (throw-in 2pm).
