Harry Greensmyth mourned

January 20, 2012
The last remaining link with Tipperary's 1934 All-Ireland minor winning football has been broken with the passing of Harry Greensmyth.

Harry lived to see Tipp regain the All-Ireland minor crown last September after a 77-year lapse and was delighted when fellow Arravale Rovers clubman and Tipp selector Tadhg Duggan paid a visit to him with the coveted Tom Markham Cup.

Born in Cahirciveen, Co. Kerry, Harry moved with his family to Tipperary Town in 1931. Along with his late brother Andy, who captained the team, he played in the 1934 All-Ireland minor football success.

He also played in the 1935 final, which Tipp lost to Mayo. When his beloved Arravale Rovers won the Tipperary SFC title in 1941, Harry was club secretary.

May he rest in peace.
