Tipp trio emigrate

Tipperary's Peter Acheson
Tipperary footballers have lost three key players to emigration.

Manager Johnny Evans will have to plan without the services of forwards Conor Sweeney and Peter Acheson as well as goalkeeper Matthew O'Donnell for the SFC qualifiers, as they are spending the summer months in the States.

Sweeney and Acheson were part of last summer's Munster U21 winning Tipp side, with the former notching 0-2 against Kerry in Killarney in this year's Munster SFC.

Acheson replaced Sweeney as a sub in that game, while Killenaule clubman O'Donnell pulled off a series of fine saves.

The Premier County were back in training earlier this week and manager Evans confirms that the trio have departed: "Peter, Conor and Matthew have gone to America. They're three young lads, students, and couldn't find work. They got offers abroad and took them, so they're working for the summer.

"Obviously, anybody is a loss to Tipperary football, but we have Paul Fitzgerald as cover for Matthew and that's tremendous cover to have."
