Kilkenny hurling education standing to Kelly
September 04, 2010
Tipperary captain Eoin Kelly admits his time in St. Kieran's College developed his self-belief as a player.
The Mullinahone clubman attended the famed hurling nursery as a boarder and lined out alongside Kilkenny's Tommy Walsh, Jackie Tyrrell and Brian Hogan in their 2000 Croke Cup success.
"There was one thing about Kieran's. I read an article on Gerry Quinn saying when he put on a St. Flannan's jersey, he never thought that he would be beaten," he said.
"I had the same thing with the Kieran's jersey. In all the time we were there we played 40 or 45 games and were only ever beaten in one game. That is just the belief that is there at underage and in the schools in Kilkenny, especially St. Kieran's and that transferred into the Kilkenny jersey now."
He continued: "The one thing I will say about the Kilkenny players is that they are very humble guys. They just on about their business."
