Loughmore clinch league title
August 27, 2010
Loughmore-Castleiney 0-19
Moycarkey-Borris 2-12
Loughmore-Castleiney claimed their second Division One senior hurling league title in four years on Sunday when they edged out a brave Moycarkey-Borris side at Templetuohy.
In an enthralling finish, it was Loughmore's ability to pick off points at will which saw them wipe out a four-point deficit at half-time to emerge winners by the narrowest of margins and clinch the title.
There was an even start to this contest before Moycarkey gained controlled when they bashed in their two goals midway through the half via strikes from Ron Doran and Kieran Morris which helped their team to the 2-6 to 0-8 lead at half-time.
In the second-half, Loughmore came out with more purpose and were unlucky not to have at least one goal early on in the restart, with James Egan blasting over his chance and Michael Webster doing likewise on the rebound of a fine save from John Kelly.
However, Loughmore wouldn't need the majors as Cian Hennessy and Evan Sweeney eventually brought them level and in the end it was Liam McGrath's expert free-taking which brought the 2007 champions back to the title.
