Swans bridge ten-year gap
August 27, 2010
Carrick Swans 1-16
Killenaule 2-11
Carrick Swans captured their 22nd south senior hurling title last Sunday at Fethard, where they condemned Killenaule to a two-point defeat.
It was Killenaule that had made the better start to the game as they moved into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead after 11 minutes with Donal Shelley, John O'Dwyer and Joe O'Dwyer raising their opening white flags.
Swans hit back through Danny O'Hanlon and managed to storm into the lead before two late points from John O'Dwyer and Michael Doyle had Killenaule in front at half-time by the minimum, 0-8 to 0-7.
It was tit for tat in the early stages of the second-half until Killenaule landed the game's first goal through the excellent John O'Dwyer and with five minutes to go it looked to be all over for Swans when Declan Fanning did likewise.
However, the winners recovered brilliantly and a late 1-2, with the goal coming from Kieran Reade, clinched them the title and helped to bridge a ten-year gap.
