Sheedy delighted

Former Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy
Tipperary boss Liam Sheedy was bursting with pride after his side's dramatic victory over Galway at Croke Park.

And while his opposite number John McIntyre felt Galway should have been awarded a close-in free at the death which would have forced extra-time, Sheedy insisted that Tipp deserved to get the rub of the green.

"This game comes down to calls at the end of the day. We've been here before and maybe we haven't got the call. Let's not take away from the overall game," he said.

"There's always talking points at the end of the game. That's par for the course in the GAA nowadays. It was a fabulous 70 minutes hurling and I'm just delighted to have come through.

"Galway held the lead and struck some good points and looked to be moving a bit better coming into the final five of six. But in fairness to the lads, they dug deep. They had the work done. They've trained at a very high intensity. It's just as well because they needed every ounce of energy they had."

Sheedy conceded that Tipp "have areas to work on" ahead of their All-Ireland semi-final against Waterford.

"Generally, if you concede 3-16, you won't win the game, but we outscored our opponents by a point. If we were to do that every time from here on in, we'd be happy enough," he added.
